Watercolour Paintings from the Scottish Wild

Landscapes painted
where they're found.

Original watercolours and fine art prints, made on the road in a campervan — from Highland lochs to windswept coastlines, and the wildlife in between.

About the Artist

A lost wanderer, brush in hand.

A few years ago I was a sensible-ish businessman who'd never painted in his life. A rough patch with my health changed that math pretty quickly — I picked up a brush somewhere in the middle of it, and never really put it back down. These days it's watercolours, a campervan, and however much of Scotland I can reach in a day.

I paint the places I actually stand in — parked up somewhere quiet, watching the light change over a loch or a rocky shoreline before it's gone. Most of what ends up on paper finds me rather than the other way round: a hare in the dunes, wildflowers nobody else stopped for, the dogs who come everywhere with me. Scotland rarely repeats itself twice, and that's the whole appeal.

Thanks for stopping by — have a proper look through the gallery below.

On the Road

Where the Paintings Come From

Every painting starts with sitting still somewhere long enough to actually look. Here's a bit of the life that surrounds the work — straight from the road, not staged for a website.

Sunset over a Scottish loch, seen from the campervan
A regular kind of evening, somewhere on the west coast.

Hand-lettering the van — "A Lost Wanderer" seemed about right.

Wherever the road stops, the legs take over.

Same bloke, considerably less painting-splattered here.

Watch Him Paint

Sat painting in the Highlands, bagpipes somewhere in the distance.
Watercolours drying on the picnic table, second-in-command keeping watch.
Where the studio actually happens — a fold-out desk in the back of the van.
Most days start like this.
